Giovanni Francesco Barbieri, best known as Il Guercino, is considered one of the greatest italian painters. The 26.000 people visiting in the first month the exhibition entitled ‘Guercino in Piancenza’ have revealed the growing interest in this artist.

In 1626 Guercino was summoned to Piacenza in order to complete the decoration of the great Cathedral Dome, one of the larger frescos he realized as an established artist. For this reason the Dome itself is the fulclrum of the ‘Guercino in Piacenza’ itinerary.

At the floor level of the church, an architectural structure welcomes the public with a great videowall projection in high definition, to create an immersive experience. 12 monitors reproduce images of the frescoes at extremely high resolution, with an accurate historical reconstruction.

Tc Rec worked to this great project in cooperation with Art Zoom – a team of professionals specialized in the enhancement of cultural heritage (Fernando Delmastro, Clara Distefano, Marco Stucchi) – clearly communicating all the necessary information about the artistic and religious context at the time the frescos were produced. One of our voiceover actors gave also a voice to the artist.

The images and voices are so realistic that the spectator instantly finds himself next to the Guercino. The artist accompanies the visitors in a journey through his preparatory sketches and his inspiring ideas, to trace the genesis of the frescoes. Guercino invites the public to go together with him on the scaffolding to show them how a ‘good fresco’ is painted.

Our voiceovers also accompany visitors around the area just under the roof to show, thanks to new lighting, details and relating particulars of the Dome frescoes.
